Art Junk Journaling

Here’s one of my newest art junk journals. I used my gelli plate sheets alone with other stamps and stencils. I also added a few vintage flowers and collected ephemera.

Gelli Plate Printing

Playing with the gelli plate today! Made some cool designs on scrap vintage music and dictionary pages that I tore out of books. Love using my favorite colors on them. I used my stencils on most pages.

Paper Bag Book

Cute little art journal made from a paper gift bag! I used stencils and lots of fun stamps.
When painted, the paper becomes leather-like.

Vintage Birthday Party Journal Continues....My Book!

The Vintage Birthday Party Art Journal continues this week...with my book!

My good friend Lilia of Fleamarket Studios and I started books with the theme Vintage Birthday Party. Check out her fabulous book in my last blog entry. It was amazing! Her theme was Art Deco Girl's party. I had so much fun with my part in it!

Here is my book! I used the theme of 60's Birthday Party. I used photos of my own birthday party along with the 60's vibe additions.

Here is how I started the book...

I designed the cover with my own photo, and added the inserts. I included really fun "negative" tags that I found in a thrift store. I think they were for prescriptions. New York addresses were typed on each one. I stamped over them, "Texas Girls" and "California Girls." That way Lilia's friends from CA would be invited to my party!

I had to have a dress up party. They're the best! I included the lyrics one of my favorite Miranda Lambert songs, "Pink Sunglasses" just for fun!

I used my stash of vintage paper patterns and made a "Lilia & Friends" page.

I also had a stash of vintage birthday cards and made small copies of them to put in a paper pocket.
This is actually a dress up birthday party pic of my friends and me. I'm wearing the diamonds.
I used a fun set of lace stickable stencils by Bo Bunny on the opposite sides of my book. Lots of vintage flowers and trims decorated each page.

Now for Lilia's Additions!

Vintage Birthday Art Journal with Fleamarket Studios! "Lilia's Book"

I am so honored to have a part in a vintage art journal by my art friend, Lilia of Fleamarket Studios.
The two of us have completed group art journals before, but it's been a few years.

We decided on a topic of Vintage Birthday Party. Her beautiful book has the fabulous theme using Deco Art Girls, the jazz age, the colorful times of the 1920s. This is her book. She designed the cover and several pages inside.

Her book included a precious page of "attendants" to her birthday party. Including me!

Lilia's artwork is so beautiful!

Now for my part!!

I continued with her cute hand written font and jewel tones. I designed with a topic for each page. Here you see a pop of black for my "evening dance" page.

Here are my Birthday Candy and Birthday Box pages.

Thank you Lilia! I had so much fun with your book!

MendyTexas Digital Art Class

It's a hot summer in the Hill Country of Texas!

Last weekend I taught a really fun digital art class for beginners.  I was so excited to get back into teaching mixed media art. Yes, digital art is an art medium!

We learned many Photoshop techniques and made some fabulous creations! I enjoyed visiting with ladies who traveled all the way from Waco and Wimberley for some digi fun. We used our own photos and added papers, flowers, stitches and music notes. We learned about layering and making each element pop off the page.

We also captured the technique on how to make our own stickers and washi tape, and where to get quality prints of our work for scrapbooking and card making. In addition, we talked about using our creations as a part of hybrid art...totally mixed media!

Mother's Day Art!

Happy Mother's Day 2018!

I enjoy making digital artwork using my family's photos. The first is a digital art piece starring my grandmother Sadie. She was around 18 years old in the 1930's. I used Bella Gypsy Boho Flowers, A Pennington Happy Stitches, and Christina Renee Flowers.

The sheet music was downloaded by me...purchased at a vintage shop.

I really love downloading things I find so that I can use them digitally over and over again!

This cutie is my mom in 1963, also 18 years old!

I used A Pennington Happy Stitches, Bella Gypsy Boho Flowers, A Burns Spring Blossoms, Damask Dream Paper Studio Papers.

I used the "Drop Shadows" function on my Adobe Photoshop to make the flowers pop!
